The rural mountain village of Carmen Pampa, Bolivia is located in the Nor Yungas, approximately 14 kilometers from Coroico, the nearest town, which is 92 kilometers from the city of La Paz.  Until 5 years ago. the only way from La Paz to Carmen Pampa involved putting your life in the hands of a minibus driver and venturing down "the world's most dangerous road", or "the old road" as it's known by here. (You may have seen the new Mazda commercials featuring the amazing view). The old road is now primarily used for tourists adventurous enough to gravity bike from La Paz to Coroico. Vehicles travel on the "new road", the  majority of which has blacktop and guardrails in what appear to be the most likely areas for mobility to vanish over the edge.  The new road has cut 1.5 hours off the 6,000 foot drop in altitude, however, it has not dimished the travelers'  senses that they are arriving in paradise.
