Science Fair - Jorndadas Scientificas
Every semester the students work on a science fair project that includes advanced research as an effort to prepare students for their final undergraduate thesis projects. The projects are very impressive and the effort of the students is apparent. The projects are judged by department directors and the best 2-4 projects of each major get to exhibit their research in the nearby town of Coroico, where they are judged again to find a winner. My favorite project this semester was done by students in Agronomy who researched the effects of planting during different moon cycles. Their findings concluded, with a likeliness to the old wive's tale (which apprently isn't) and the Farmer's Almanac that planting during a full moon can reduce the occurrence of plague and increase plant production. Other topics included: Agrotourism, UTIs, Growing mediums for garlic, and the effects of stress on college students.
